Pirates GM Neal Huntington joined the RumBunter Podcast

Pirates GM Neal Huntington joined the RumBunter Podcast

Pittsburgh Pirates GM Neal Huntington joined us on the RumBunter Podcast to talk about the 2013 season. The Pirates completed their best season in twenty years, but it is obvious that the Bucs’ commander has already put the 2013 season in the rear view mirror.

The discussion is detailed and lengthy, with topics including the Pirates successes and failures, the status of the leadership, and general roster discussion including the 2014 pitching staff.

We especially enjoyed his take on the failures of the team in 2013. Huntington even attempts to come up with a theme song for the 2013 season and the concept is one we agree with entirely. It’s almost scary.

Jameson Taillon’s injury is discussed and listen closely to how Huntington describes the possible, perfect world impact of missing time in the Arizona Fall League.

A.J. Burnett is discussed, including some hilarious comments about the off-the-field moments that only Burnett can and would do. Of course, Burnett’s possible return to the team in 2014 is a hot topic. Huntington answers some rapid fire questions about the 40-man roster and the upcoming Pirates Rule 5 draft.

Gregory Polanco is playing winter ball and Huntington talks about what the organization looks for from players who play in the offseason.

We want to thank Neal and ALL the players who came on the Podcast this season, but most of all, we want to thank YOU for helping make us a success. You’re why we do this damned thing in the first place!

Podcast Episode 6: The General Manager – Neal Huntington… Playoff Edition

Pittsburgh Pirates GM Neal Huntington joined the RumBunter Podcast to discuss all things Pirates baseball. The team that Huntington and his staff have assembled are in the heart of a post season race and it’s easy to hear the excitement in Huntington’s voice during the show.

The topics were fast, furious, and all about Pirates baseball during the nearly 60 minutes spent with Huntington during the show. Here are some of the Pirates subjects discussed:

Why does Smitty hate a sold out PNC Park?

What is Huntington’s take on the successes of the Bucs minor league system this year?

The Pirates invested a significant amount of Bob Nutting’s cash this offseason in beefing up their baseball acumen, replacing their Pittsburgh media entitled ‘superscout’ if you will. Bill Livesey, Ron Hopkins, Ricky Bennett, Carlos Berroa, and John Kosiciak were brought on board–in total well over 100 years of baseball experience.

The Bucs have improved leaps and bounds in their defense in 2013, how did they do it? Who is responsible and how did it get sold within the organization?

In the first inning of games this season, the Pirates allowed 79 runs. That is the most of any inning. Is it because the shifts are used less early in games?

Can you listen closely enough to catch Huntington admit who will be on the post season roster?

What about Wandy Rodriguez?

What will Huntington be looking for from Jameson Taillon in the Arizona Fall League?

Why is Cocktails losing teeth enamel over Jose Tabata?

We know you will love it.
